Lions,Tigers, and Bears...........Oh my!

20 Benaiah was the son of Jehoiada, the son of a valiant man from Kabzeel, who had done many deeds. He had killed two lion-like heroes of Moab. He also had gone down and killed a lion in the midst of a pit on a snowy day. And David appointed him over his guard. 2 Sam 23:20,23 (NKJV)

One of the books I am reading is In A Pit With A Lion on a Snowy Day by Mark Batterson. He uses the scripture above to define people that are lion chasers and then tells their stories. I hope I have raised my children to be lion chasers. Lion chasers are willing to take a chance. They realize that life is short and sometimes you have to risk it all to obtain the prize. Lion chasers win games, succeed in life, help others, and..........................plant churches.

This last week our son and daugher, Ryan and Amanda announced that they will become church planters this next fall. They are in Salsibury, Maryland. Ryan is serving as a youth minister at this time, but he has turned in his resignation. He will be starting a church. Is it a safe move? No; but it is needed.

When we talk about stewardship, most think that we are talking about our money. That is only one tiny part. We must be stewards of our imagination, our dreams, our talents, our energy, and even our humor. Stewardship is all-inclusive.

I am proud of our children who are lion chasers! Ryan and Amanda, we are proud of you and we will pray for you daily.

You have done well with our children. You have that knack about you, to train your children toward their God-given gifts so that "when they are old they will not depart." You are simply seeing the fruits of your labor with our children. I am thankful that you are my husband and our children's father. I, too, am proud of all of our children.

Coach Weaver! I can't believe it's been so long and occasionally i've tried unsuccessfully to find make "contact." Though, your son, Ryan found me about 7 years ago at my work. He is a wonderful young man. I read that he's going to be a church plant (hope he gets plenty of living water! - I here that plants need water). Cancer, huh? Amazing - God's giving you the opportunity to grow stonger!. I've got so much to share about the past 14 years or so and want to see how you are doing. you can email me at mellowh@gmail.com or call me at 903-363-4461. But, one thing I do need to tell you is that I received Christ into my life 4 years ago and my thoughts during that time of my growing faith many times went back to you and David Smith (I always thought of your faith and how you two always stood out from everybody else). I now know why. God Bless and hope to hear from you soon.

I got to have lunch with Batterson a few months ago. Let me just say, he is no Uncle Kevvy! By the way, ever thought of writing a book?

Hi Coach Weaver,

It's Rae Pelt (Koonce now). I "friended" Ryan on facebook, and saw what he was saying about you. I just thought I would say hello. I'm sad to hear that you have cancer, but glad to hear that you are staying positive. It is a hard thing. Our family has experienced alot of it.
My grandmother had chemo, radiation and in the end, a full mastectomy and more chemo and radiation. She survived, and in a few months, it will be 30 years since then, with no relapse!
Her husband, my grandfather got lung cancer. They thought it would spread and that he only had months. It never did. It just hung out there in his lung, for 5 years, not moving or growing are shrinking. He was never sick from it (except when he was on chemo and radiation, but they stopped that). God defiantly answered our prayers, but not the way we thought he would. And because of the cancer, they "accidentally" found that he had an anurism on his aorta that surely would have burst and killed him.
Randy and I will pray for you and your family. I know this must be hard on Chris and the kids as well.
In April, we were moving back to Tx from. Minnesota, and my parents came to help us. My dad almost died on my kitchen floor. He had a grand maul seizure and stopped breathing and his heart stopped. If my mom and I hadn't been there he would have. We did CPR. Seeing my dad in that condition was very hard for me. But in the end, I was so thankful to God, and my dad and I have become closer.
I will keep you and the rest of your family in my prayers, and Randy will too.
